How does creating a team help you monetize your skill?

Do you have a skill that you want to monetize? One of the best ways to do it is to build a team.

In fact, a mentor who helped me start a business gave me some of the best advice I’ve ever received. He told me to find two to three people to train so I can expand my company. I could teach others to do some of my work to free up time for tasks only I could do.

This is exactly what I did when I built and grew several businesses in the analytics, call center, virtual staffing, and business coaching industries.

3 reasons why you need to build a team of experts:

  • Your circle of influence won’t grow just through marketing

In business, growth is impossible to do by yourself. You need a group of people who can use their influence on your behalf, making your voice stronger and your network bigger.

When I started my business, my mentor told me this. First, I hired two virtual assistants who could promote our business on social media by making content, sharing it, and talking to potential customers.

If I had to do all of those things alone, I never would have had the time to start and grow my other businesses.

  • Exponential growth comes from systems

One of the reasons big companies succeed is having systems in place. Systems allow your team to understand their roles and how they fit in the organization as a whole.

This is why you need to set up marketing, financial, HR, and other systems that represent how you want your firm to perform at its best potential. Once you have a structure, find people to carry out the processes without your direct involvement.

This is the part where you can start devoting more of your time monetizing your in-demand skills.

  • Empowering your team means you can do more

When you’re first building your team, it’s important to keep in mind that the end goal is for your team members to be able to do their own thing within the framework you established.

You will not be able to scale your business unless you are willing to let your staff take over but for most business owners, the most challenging part is giving up control. Because they cannot delegate, they are never able to free up enough of their time to get things done.
